Community Guidelines

1. The Spirit of Lumen Weekly

Lumen Weekly is a space for reflective writing, introspection, personal growth, and meaningful connection through thought.

It is designed for people who want to slow down, write honestly, read deeply, exchange ideas thoughtfully, and learn through both their own reflections and the perspectives of others.

This is not a space for performance, outrage, popularity contests, humiliation, or hostile debate.

These Community Guidelines are here to protect the quality, safety, and integrity of the Lumen Weekly community.

By using Lumen Weekly, you agree to follow these Guidelines.

2. Our Values

Lumen Weekly is built around a small set of values that guide how people participate and how the platform is moderated.

We value:

• Sincerity: writing and participation that come from honest attention rather than performance.
• Reflection: the willingness to pause, question, feel, and make meaning.
• Thoughtfulness: giving ideas enough care and time to become clearer.
• Depth: allowing thoughts to be nuanced, vulnerable, complex, or unfinished.
• Respect: preserving the dignity of others, including when we disagree.
• Curiosity: being open to different experiences, perspectives, and ways of seeing the world.
• Responsibility: understanding that pseudonymity creates freedom, but not freedom from accountability.
• Meaningful connection: engaging with others because their ideas matter to us, not for attention or status.

These values apply to reflections, discussion posts, pseudonyms, sharing, reporting, and all other participation on Lumen Weekly.

3. Write and Participate with Sincerity

You do not need writing experience or polished work to belong on Lumen Weekly.

Reflections and discussion posts should come from genuine thought, experience, curiosity, or engagement with the topic.

Lumen Weekly exists to support reflection and meaningful exchange, not performance.

4. Respect the Person, Challenge the Idea

Thoughtful disagreement is welcome.

You may question, challenge, or disagree with an idea expressed by another author. You may offer a different perspective or explain why you see something differently.

But disagreement must remain focused on the idea, not the person.

Do not:

• insult or ridicule another user;
• humiliate, shame, or belittle someone;
• make personal attacks;
• threaten or intimidate others;
• repeatedly target a particular user;
• engage in harassment or bullying;
• diagnose another person's mental health, motives, personality, or character;
• use someone's reflection or discussion post as a basis for personal degradation.

You do not have to agree. You do have to remain respectful.

5. Discussions

Discussions are shared spaces for exploring ideas that emerge within the Lumen Weekly community.

They are intended to help people think further, encounter different perspectives, and engage with ideas beyond their own reflections.

When participating in a discussion:

• contribute to the topic rather than trying to dominate it;
• respond to ideas with curiosity and substance;
• disagree without attacking the author;
• avoid repetitive, provocative, or disruptive posting;
• do not turn the discussion into a personal dispute;
• do not publicly call out, shame, or organize others against another user;
• respect any participation limits and other discussion rules provided by the platform.

Discussions are not designed for winning arguments. Their purpose is to deepen thought.

6. Pseudonymity with Responsibility

Lumen Weekly supports pseudonymous participation.

You do not need to reveal your real name, photo, or public identity.

Choose a pseudonym that allows you to participate freely while respecting the nature of the space.

Pseudonyms must not be hateful, abusive, sexually explicit, deliberately misleading, impersonating, or designed to provoke or humiliate others.

Pseudonymity must not be used to:

• impersonate another person;
• create misleading identities;
• harass or target others;
• evade moderation;
• bypass account or participation restrictions.

You remain responsible for your words and actions regardless of the name you use.

7. What Is Not Allowed

The following are not allowed on Lumen Weekly:

• hate speech or dehumanizing language;
• harassment, bullying, threats, or intimidation;
• personal attacks, humiliation, or targeted degradation;
• content that promotes violence, extremism, self-harm, or illegal activity;
• political, ideological, religious, or commercial propaganda;
• attempts to recruit, mobilize, or manipulate users toward political, ideological, extremist, commercial, or harmful goals;
• spam, scams, or irrelevant promotion;
• sexually explicit content or graphic violence;
• deliberate misinformation or deceptive manipulation;
• content that violates another person's privacy;
• content that infringes intellectual property rights;
• impersonation or identity deception;
• attempts to evade moderation or platform restrictions;
• repeated behavior that disrupts the reflective and respectful purpose of the platform.

8. Personal Reflection vs. Propaganda

Lumen Weekly may include writing about society, politics, faith, identity, values, morality, meaning, and personal beliefs.

These subjects are not prohibited.

Personal reflection, exploration, questioning, and thoughtful disagreement are welcome.

What is not welcome is using Lumen Weekly primarily for propaganda, recruitment, coordinated campaigning, manipulation, or mobilization of users toward political, ideological, extremist, commercial, or harmful goals.

The distinction is not the topic itself, but how the platform is being used.

9. Respect Other Authors' Writing

Other authors remain the authors of their writing.

You may read it, learn from it, be moved by it, respond to ideas expressed in it, and use Lumen Weekly-supported features such as Inspire, Follow, or Share where available.

You may not copy, republish, publicly screenshot, present as your own, commercially exploit, or distribute another person's writing outside the intended Lumen Weekly experience without permission.

If another author's writing inspires you, engage with it respectfully and preserve its context.

10. Sharing with Care

Published reflections may be discoverable inside Lumen Weekly and may be shareable through platform-supported previews or links.

Sharing should support discovery, reflection, and respect.

Do not use another person's writing to expose, ridicule, shame, misrepresent, or target them.

Where Lumen Weekly provides a supported sharing feature, use that feature rather than reproducing another author's complete work elsewhere.

11. Inspire and Follow

The Inspire feature is intended to show that a reflection moved, helped, or inspired you.

It is not a ranking system or a measure of personal worth.

Following is intended to help users return to authors whose writing they find meaningful.

Neither feature may be used for harassment, unwanted monitoring, pressure, manipulation, or abuse.

12. Reporting

If you see content or behavior that appears harmful, abusive, hateful, manipulative, threatening, or otherwise inconsistent with these Guidelines, you may report it where reporting is available.

Reports are reviewed in context.

A report does not automatically mean that content will be removed or that action will be taken against another user.

Misusing reporting tools to target or harass another user may itself be treated as a violation of these Guidelines.

13. Moderation and Consequences

Lumen Weekly may review, approve, reject, hide, remove, limit, or otherwise moderate content or participation that violates these Guidelines, the Terms of Use, applicable law, or the purpose and integrity of the platform.

Depending on the situation, actions may include:

• a warning;
• rejection or removal of content;
• temporary participation or publishing limits;
• restriction of platform features;
• temporary suspension;
• account deactivation;
• permanent account termination or ban.

Repeated violations, attempts to evade moderation, or patterns of misuse may result in stronger restrictions.

Serious violations may result in immediate suspension or termination.

Where supported by the platform, authors may be given an opportunity to revise and resubmit content that has been rejected or removed.

14. Automated and AI-Assisted Review

Lumen Weekly may use human review, automated tools, AI-assisted tools, or a combination of these to support moderation, safety, translation, abuse prevention, and quality review.

Automated tools may not always interpret context perfectly, and moderation decisions may also involve human judgment.

15. Difficult and Sensitive Topics

Lumen Weekly may invite reflection on difficult or sensitive experiences.

You may write about sadness, fear, loss, uncertainty, faith, identity, mistakes, change, hope, or personal struggle.

Please do so with care for yourself and others.

Lumen Weekly is not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, legal, financial, or other specialist support.

16. The Space We Are Building

Lumen Weekly is built around a simple idea:

Writing can help us understand ourselves. Reading and engaging with the thoughts of others can help us understand the human experience more deeply.

Please help us keep this space thoughtful, safe, sincere, curious, and worthy of the trust people place in it.
